The N17/N18 Scheme (Gort to Tuam) provides 57 kilometres of non-tolled motorway and dual carriageway as part of a high quality road link between Letterkenny and Waterford (the Atlantic Corridor). At an estimated capital cost of €330 million, this was the largest project of the Infrastructure Stimulus Programme creating up to 450 jobs, boosting local economies in the west of Ireland and easing traffic congestion.

The N17/N18 Scheme successfully reached financial close in April 2014 with the contract awarded to the Direct Route Consortium comprising Strabag, Sisk, Lagan, Roadbridge, Marguerite Fund and InfraRed.
The successful fundraising for this project marked an important milestone in the continuation of the Irish PPP programme and confirmed the international financial market’s renewed confidence at both a bank and institutional level.
The project was successfully refinanced in May 2016 achieving savings for the State of €23m. Further details on the N17/N18 refinancing can be found here.
The completed road scheme was officially opened by Minister for Transport Tourism & Sport Shane Ross, TD, on 27 September 2017. Further details are available here.
